TEMPLES IN KOLLAPUR CONSISTENCY


Madhava swamy temple :The Madhava Swamy temple at Kollapur was originally built by the Rajas of Jetprole during the 16th century A.D. on the left bank of River Krishna, at Manchalakatta. The architecture of the temple is exceedingly beautiful. All around the temple walls the beautifully carved sculptures depict the 24 aspects of Vishnu and the Dasa-Avatars of Vishnu. Various pillars supporting the Mandapa, the Garudalaya add beauty to the temple complex. Due to the submergence under the Srisailam project reservoir, this temple was shifted and transplanted at Kollapur. This temple is located 180 kms from Hyderabad and 110 kms from Kurnool & Mahabubnagar.

Someswara swamy temple :The very ancient shiva temple called someshwara temple located at somasila around 200 years ago. the Someswara Swamy temple. There are 15 temples all housing the Shivalingas. Shivarathri & Karthika Pournami are celebrated with much fervour.

The Pushkar snanam duringthe Krishan pushkaram which occurs once in 12 years is auspicious. The temple was shifted from old Somasila village to higher contours to protect it from being drowned in Krishna waters. With beautiful surroundings it is also an ideal picnic spot.

Temples in the complex
There are many Shivalingas in the temple complex.Shivarathri & Karthikamasam are celebrated with many fervors.

Special poojas
For all festivals special poojas are held. Mainly pushakaras are celebrated in a grand style. Pushkara snanam is considered as most auspicious.

How to Reach
Somasila is situated at a distance of 15 kms. from Kollapur which is 158 kms. from Mahbubnagar and 55 kms. from Kurnool. Somasila is well connected by road and there are frequent buses from Kollapur. Private transport is available from Kollapur.

Venugaopala swamy temple:this temple is located at jetprole.Located 9 kms from Kollapur & 158 kms from Mahabubnagar, this place is famous for the ancient Agasthyesvara Swamy temple built between the 10th & 16th century A.D. Festivals like Sivarathri, Kartikha Pournami, Masa Sivarathri and Toll Ekadasi are celebrated with great fervour.
This temple was shifted to Jetprole when the Krishna water threatened to submerge the villages after the construction of the Srisailam dam.The pillars beams, and the walls of the temple are richly adorned with beautiful sculpture.



Laxminarasimha swamy temple:

This temple is located at singotam,
Here "Singotam Jatara" will be Celebrated every Year.

Thanks for the information on the temples. I saw the recent ETV programme on the temples also. I am planning to visit Srisailam next week and would like to visit the Kollapur temples and also the Navabramha temples. Can you suuggest the best route from Srisailam. I am driving down. I would also like to visit Mahanandi and if possible Ahobilam. I am new to this part of Andhra and though I am from Dri Kalahasti, I have now settled in Chennai.
